EL SANDO

El Sando’s life is art: graphic design, sign painting, fine art and of course tattooing. He honed his skills at some of the most influential shops in Texas including Dovetail Tattoo before founding his own Smoking Mirror Tattoo. His years of study and passion for ancient Mayan art and Mesoamerican culture have led him to accomplish what is rare in an artist, an iconic style woven through an indigenous lens that is truly all his own.

El Sando’s vibrant, Marcado 28 Reposado label design is the embodiment of his signature Codice style. The radiant central figure depicts Mayahuel, the Aztec goddess of maguey (agave) and fertility, enveloped in a halo of mystical energy. In a selfless act, she pours forth the essence of life, symbolized by the milk that spills from her being to create the tequila. Drunken rabbits crown her head, while butterflies converge around her, serving as messengers between the living and the dead.

This evocative imagery beautifully captures the essence of sacrifice, transformation, and spiritual connection inherent in the creation and consumption of tequila.
